  • January 2010 - The Elite Sports Performance (ESP) Select 15 year old girls soccer team (pictured above from left: Marge Ureche, Caeleigh Morton, Nikki Anderson, Taylor Gibson, Lindsy Kendrick, and Brenna Risch) last weekend competed in the KickIt 3v3 World Championships at Disneys Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL. The girls played against some very tough competition, facing teams that had played together for up to 10 years and every other team having competed in the World Championships previously while the ESP team was newly formed this Summer and were the only newcomers who made it through the Regional qualifiers to make it to the Disney finals. The ESP girls played 4 very close matches with generally only 1 or 2 goals deciding the winners, and in their final game of the tournament, after beating a Northeastern team 7-3, found themselves in a sudden-death match facing a very experienced team that over the Summer had beaten ESP 12-0 in an early-season tournament so they knew they had their hands full. Due to a combination of nerves, inexperience and sheer bad luck ESP initially went down 2-0 but pulled themselves together to press the attack and went into half time down by 4-2 and with ESP dominating possession and pressing hard for goals. The other team knew they had a tiger by the tail and spent the whole of the second half defending furiously and earning themselves multiple cautions from the ref as they kicked the ball as far off the field as possible at every opportunity to waste time. Unfortunately their tactics worked and no more goals were scored, giving them a 4-2 win and a place in the quarter finals. Despite that disappointing loss, all of the ESP girls came out of the competition excited to have come so far and done so well. As one player put it, "We've gotten this much better in 6 months, just imagine how good we'll be next year!". All of their parents and coaches couldn't be more proud of how hard the girls worked, how much they improved, and at the strong positive attitude they displayed all through the season. The team would like to thank their sponsors, Elite Sports Performance of Oswego for all their support in helping the team prepare for the competition.

The ESP team pictured above of, from the left,  Caeleigh Morton, Nikki Anderson, Brenna Risch, Lindsy Kendrick, Marge Ureche, and Taylor Gibson are preparing to travel to Florida in January to compete in the KickIt 3v3 World Championships at Disneys Wide World Of Sports. The team formed in June this year with the goal of qualifying for the World Championships in Disney but started out with a modest 2nd place in their first home tournament, losing to the Aurora Flames girls in the final. They then competed in a local tournament in Naperville in July and finished in the middle of their division, then tried their hand at a Regional tournament in Iowa where they finished in the lower half of their division. The girls kept working hard and improving and in late August traveled to Racine, Wisconsin for another crack at Regionals and this time finished in 2nd place, just being edged out of first by a team that had been together for 10 years, and earning the ESP team a ranking of 14th out of 188 teams in the US and qualifying them to play in the World Championships. This past weekend was their first 3v3 tournament since then so they came out a little rusty and in their opening game against a combined PSC/Galaxy Blue team the ESP girls failed to finish on several scoring opportunities and ended up with a 3-1 win. In their second game against the same Flames team that beat them earlier in the year, the ESP girls initially went down 1-0 but then started regaining their form and ended with a flurry of goals for a 7-3 win. In the final game of the tournament, the ESP team faced PSC Wildcats Orange who, with a 4-3 win against the PSC/Galaxy Blue team, were also looking to claim the championship title. The ESP girls had reached their full stride by now, though, and in a dazzling display of footwork and confidence blazed their way to a comfortable 6-1 win. The ESP girls are now keeping practicing and considering 1 or 2 additional tournaments to help get ready for their trip to Disney World. Congratulations to all the girls for making it this far and having come such a long way in such a short time!

  • October 2009 - At the Prep Baseball Report High School Baseball Showcase, held at ESP, 4 ESP students rank in the 12 overall -
  1. #1 Jake Roberts, Plainfield South HS, SS/C/RHP, Class of 2012: Roberts proved that he is without question one of the top prospects in Class of 2012. At the plate he has quick hips, good extension, and plus hands that allow the 155-pounder to spray line drives to all fields. Roberts also showed well at shortstop, where he possesses solid actions and footwork to go along with a strong arm and quick release. However, Roberts was most impressive behind the plate, as he consistently registered sub-2 pop times with a low of 1.88. On the mound, Roberts showcased a plus 12-6 curveball with tight rotation and late bite to go along with a fastball in the low 80s and changeup with late fade.
  2. #2  Matthew Schultz, Oswego East HS, RHP, Class of 2012: The 6-foot-1 Schultz has a solid, athletic build and fast arm with good extension. He throws a hard-boring fastball with arm-side life that sat 83-85 mph. His curveball had tight rotation and some late two-plane break. Schultz showed at the event that he is an elite prospect in the Class of 2012.
  3. #4  Brandon Loftis, Joliet West HS, RHP/OF, 2011: The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Loftis has a long pitcher’s build that allows him to throw at a steep downhill angle. The ball comes out of his hand effortlessly with late hand acceleration. He touched 84 with his fastball, which had late arm side run. Loftis also featured a tight curve and a good change with late fade. When Loftis develops more physically, he should see a significant velocity spike.
  4. #12   Scott Allegretti, Oswego HS, LHP, 2011: The left-handed Allegretti showed command of three pitches. He had an above average curveball with two-plane break to go along with a fastball in the upper-70s.
