What Athlete Has Any Other Goal Than A Long Healthy Career?
A significant amount of athletes are performing high-level activities even though they have unknown physical imbalances. These individuals create poor movement patterns, train around pre-existing problems or simply do not address their weaknesses during their strength and conditioning programs. Unknown physical limitations will drastically distort body mechanics and performance, and set the athlete up for pre-mature breakdown.
Sports Medicine has grossly misled athletes today. Athletes are educated wrong and suffer because of this inadequate education. The only time an athlete would ever consider seeing a Sports Medicine provider is when they are injured. This would suggest there is absolutely nothing beneficial that can be done for an athlete prior to an injury.
There are 4 basic flaws with today’s Sports Medicine industry:
1) We wait until an athlete is injured before we do anything.
2) We only look at the site of injury.
3) Our treatment goals are “to eliminate symptoms”.
4) We allow insurance guidelines to dictate what care is provided.
As athletes, we have continual needs that are much greater and more demanding. These needs should never be based only on symptoms nor governed by the insurance industry. The result is Performance Chiropractic & Sports Medicine; a sports specialty clinic that meets the needs of athletes to have a more successful career through injury treatment and athletic development.
